The dangerous rise of right wing gay men

In Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, 31 men believed to be members of the white nationalist group Patriot Front were arrested as they traveled in a U-Haul truck to allegedly riot and the local Pride Month celebration in town. In a twist that has left progressive heads spinning and rainbow flags drooping in confusion, a new menace is emerging from the glitter-dusted shadows of the gay community: right-wing gay men.

Inthe American right has sharply escalated its attacks on gay and transgender people and the broader queer community. Berger, a writer and researcher who focuses on extremist ideologies and has written four books on the topic, joins William Brangham to discuss.

But I think that was the intended purpose, was to stop the program and to say that this community is not inclusive and welcoming. Cause harm. Cause terror. It's our community. Two of those events happen this past Saturday. There have been several recent incidents where far right white supremacist groups have targeted LGBTQ people.

We're seeing a rapid rise in discriminatory policies across the country, but the San Francisco Bay Area is not Texas. And that's really telling that this is a very serious issue, and it must be addressed. They may contain errors. And I think that was their intention.
